Re: Strict NAT Type?
NAT stands for network address translation. It's basically the splitting of the internet through a router to multiple devices without the ISP having to provide more than one IP address.
Get the model number of your router (should be on back or bottom), go to PortForward.com, find your router from the list, you do not need to pay for anything (skip the ad in the upper right hand corner), find ps3 cod mw3 under the Ps, follow the directions (you must set up a static IP address for your PS3, there will be a link in the directions to show you how).
This should open all required ports and you should get NAT Type 2, Open.

Are both of your network settings on the PS3s the same?

Yes if done correctly. I'd suggest that you call the manufacturer of your router to walk you through port forwarding and setting static IP addresses if your still unsure.

Re: Strict NAT Type?
It may just be your internet because I play through my router and my parents are on their computer and my sister is on hers streaming videos and my internet is still quick and NAT Type is Open.
Are you on a cable to your PS3 or wireless?

Re: Strict NAT Type?
You just need a long cable to reach it, I have a 25ft cable. And yes the router can still be used from another computer. I use wifi on my laptop which is next to my ps3 while the ps3 has the cord.
Re: Strict NAT Type?
Does using a cable actually make a noticeable difference over wireless?

Yes a HUGE difference. I played on wireless at Chrystal's house and it was pretty bad but once I moved to a wire it was actually quicker. Just think about it, if you have a wire attached to the PS3 the information gets sent to the PS3 a hell of a lot quicker than it sending through wifi. Through wifi it has to grasp the information and can take longer to find that info compared to a cable.
Re: Strict NAT Type?
Does the wire make a diffrence if ur ps3 is right next to your modem anyways??

yes because it still takes a lot longer for it to get the information and put it together. Through a cable it's already put together and on it's way to the PS3.
Wifi is more convenient since it doesn't need wires and stuff, but you lose a lot of your connection speed from it.
wifi = convenience.
cable = speed.
Re: Strict NAT Type?
lol i already have a damn good connection, ide prolly NEVER experience lag with a wire ha...

I might try a wire connection tonight and see if I notice a difference. I've been shooting "Ghosts" lately and the lag is out of control; If the kids are running Netflix, I usually pack it in until they are done.

Wired vs wireless won't make a difference if your router settings are f'd up.

Re: Strict NAT Type?
After reading up on Port Forwarding, my concern is that IF i forward Port 80 to the PS3, Netflix will not work on another machine in my network at the same time.
Port 80 is used to stream video by Netflix, and send content by MW3. Does that make sense AuburnRCD?

First off you must remember that you will need to set up a static IP for your PS3. Next, you will only be forwarding ports to the static IP you set for your PS3.
Also, you will need to turn OFF your universal plug-n-play (UPnP) on both your router and your PS3. UPnP can interfere with port forwarding.
Port 80 is the default port for all web (http) web traffic. Your other machines will not be affected.
